DESCRIPTION::

Horner Park lies along the North Branch of the Chicago River in the City of Chicago. The project site is 14 acres, which includes approximately 2,600 feet of the riverbank.

 

The goal of this project was to restore a natural ecosystem to the North Branch Chicago River at Horner Park and to its riparian zone by restoring stream hydraulics and morphology, restoring riparian zone habitat and vegetation, restoring oak savanna, woodland, wetland shelf, and prairie habitats, and treatment of and/or removal of invasive species.

 

Native Landscape Contractors was responsible for the slope stabilization work, installation of multiple wood chip trails, selective tree and shrub removal, native landscaping installation of approximately 20,000 native plugs, 150 native trees, 300 native shrubs, and installation of 10 acres of native seed.
