Plantsman:

This is a mid-level field position, full time and seasonal positions available with the possibility for year round work. Working out of Romeoville, IL. 

  • This is a union position with Operating Engineers Local 150

  • Benefits included: pension, vacation, & health insurance

  • Qualified candidates will be required to successfully complete union training courses

  • Qualified candidates will be capable of the following:

    • work under the direction of the Superintendent;

    • be able to assess sites and determine proper site management techniques and strategies;

    • direct and help crew members in accomplishing tasks;

    • document site conditions;

    • maintain site logs;

    • participate in prescribed burns;

    • train new crew members in plant identification;

    • train crew members in proper herbicide mixing;

    • train crew members in proper herbicide application;

    • work outdoors on uneven terrain and during potentially adverse weather and biological conditions such as heat, cold, wind, humidity, biting insects;

    • mechanical or manual plant removal;

    • installation of native plants and native seed;

    • installation of erosion control measures;

    • mowing; small engine and equipment maintenance;

    • drive crew to and from sites; maintain a safe and professional work environment.

  • A qualified applicant will be able to work a variable schedule. Typical schedules consist of 8 to 10 hour days, Monday – Friday starting as early as 5am with the potential for weekend work

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

  • Must have IL Pesticide License

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Degree in ecology, environmental science, biology, forestry, landscape architecture is preferred

  • 2-3 years of ecological restoration experience

  • Strong knowledge of Illinois flora and plant ID skills

  • Ability to work alone or in a team setting

  • Must be able to lift 30lbs regularly

  • Must be able to operate small engines (mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws)

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen

Junior Plantsman

This is an entry level position, full time and seasonal positions available, with the possibility for year round work. Working out of Romeoville, IL. 

  • This is a union position with Operating Engineers Local 150

  • Qualified candidates will be able to successfully complete the following tasks:work under the supervision of a Crew Foreman;

    • work outdoors on uneven terrain and during potentially adverse weather and biological conditions such as heat, cold, wind, humidity, biting insects;

    • correctly identify native and non-native plant species;

    • proper herbicide mixing and application;

    • mechanical or manual plant removal;

    • installation of native plants and native seed;

    • installation of erosion control measures;

    • mowing;

    • small engine and equipment maintenance;

    • drive company vehicles;

    • participate in prescribed burns;

    • maintain a safe and professional work environment.

  • A qualified applicant will be able to work a variable schedule. Typical schedules consist of 8 to 10 hour days, Monday – Friday starting as early as 5am with the potential for weekend work
